Cool blues for a hot bank holiday...apologies, more bottle faffing!
Nineteenth century hair preparations, quack medicines, antiseptics and the most desirable poison bottles are the dream. But into the twentieth century everyday brands like Vicks and Optrex ensure that cobalt blue glass is accessible to anyone who forages ground, river or shore for bottles and sea glass! Early in the twentieth century Milk of Magnesia bottles changed from aqua glass to cobalt blue and are beautifully embossed; postwar the embossing is dropped, but the glass makes up for that with a deeper intense blue that cannot be ignored! (please swipe).
I think the rarer colour is the pale powder blue, there are familiar shapes (for example a tall squared bottle turns up often - please swipe) but I have only seen a few pale blue nineteenth century embossed bottles. My favourite is by Squire's Chemist, pharmacists to the Royals and who were also responsible for concocting the anointing oil used in the coronation of Queen Victoria and subsequent monarchs. This might once have contained an expensive remedy for a person of means, but as in all things, it was found sharing the same plot as the Boots Cash Chemist bottles, three feet down in a Hampshire dump. ⠀
Big ole Kent Coffey Perspecta Dresser lightly refreshed. Hard to believe this is the original finish which is close to 70 years old.
Six center drawers flanked by two doors with rosewood accents with three drawers each. Well made and nicely detailed this dresser was designed and manufactured by Kent-Coffey, North Carolina, in the 1960s.
This piece has been meticulously gone through to ensure all doors and drawers operate smoothly. The entire piece has been cleaned and disinfected. The original hardware has been polished.
If you’ve been looking for a stylish piece with tons of storage this is it. A very rare and sought after piece.
So today I cleaned out my Old Man’s shed. Hidden amongst 50 years worth of cobwebs and spiders the size of cats I found some interesting stuff. My dad is either a mild hoarder or Indiana Jones.. • An old Fire Extinguisher on which I could not see a date, but it is definitely old.
• A US Army Canteen dated 1943.
•A Bayonet - I remember my dad saying that is possibly from WW2?..
•Some old wooden golf clubs with a name I can’t quite make out. Sadly it’s not a full set..
•An ammunition’s box
• A Singer Sewing Machine. Which again is clearly old.
Anyone have any info on any of this stuff?
With the slightest of cosmetic differences, the 1957 Corvette remains seemingly unchanged from the 1956 model. The hardtop option makes the car look more aggressive, as it fits the all new fuel injected 283 V8 engine. This was the first ever small block V8 in American Vehicle History to match horsepower with displacement. This specific model can be found on sale at www.hemmings.com. Our visitor engagement focus today was based in the dining room, decked out in our wonderful Queen Anne theme. We made a start on deep cleaning all of the chairs pictured here. While one of us dusted the chair with a special pony hair brush, we then applied the National Trust's furniture polish with a bristled brush. After buffing this polish off, we were left with a protective coating which will last the chairs well. 🌿🍃✨

How do you have yours?
My amazing, supportive, patient husband who also happens to be a fantastic baker, spent last night looking up scone recipes and this afternoon baked me some while I was in bed with #migrainebrain .
Full #afternoontea photo shoot tomorrow, but for now, head to my profile to vote for which is most correct - jam on clotted cream, or cream on jam?
