Next up in my @nuunhydration mini-series - Why do we lose electrolytes during our sleep? Why can we often wake up not optimally hydrated? Naturally when we sleep we lose fluid, which in turn means a reduction in our electrolyte content during sleep. Surprisingly we lose fluid through our breathing, especially if breathing through our mouth or snoring 😴 If you train in the evenings, which is common for many amateur athletes, the bodies core temperature can often be higher than usual and this results in a higher loss of fluid (electrolytes) during our sleep. We lose more body fluids in a warm and/or dry sleeping environment. It’s for this reason, among others, that its better to be cool at night instead of hot. The optimal sleeping temperature is considered to be between 15 - 19 Celsius (60 - 67 Fahrenheit). As you can read there’s many contributing factors for why we can likely wake up needing to hydrate due to a loss of fluids through the night. I religiously start most days, alongside my breakfast and coffee, with 500ml water with a dissolved Nuun Sport electrolyte tablet ☺️🙌🏼💦 It’s something I have actively built into my routine, from experience it’s helped me execute the first session of the day better ✌🏼

Long work 🤓 week. I had to shuffle and play around with my routine to fit work and training... long days, late sessions, well that’s amateur life, isn’t it? No winging at all here hey! It was a great week anyway and today I slept in started late ‘cause resting is a VITAL part of training. 💯+ Ks in a windy but beautiful day, heaps of climbing and lots of fun with my beautiful and best friend @mayercata .
Road to Nice 🇫🇷 .
Ooh 😮 almost forgot—-> finally I finished a ride in the best place when starting late! Those 🥧 pies are mouthwatering 🤤

Portsea 154km Ride Brick session
I have the greatest team ever and the greatest friends ever. So many people have offered me a bike to use and honestly I don’t have any words to describe how grateful I am to have all of you in my life. You are amazing. I finally got a bike from a lovely teammate.
4:40 start this morning. Earliest start in a while. Woke up at had a little stretch and then ate a yummy breakfast, preparing myself for a long day ahead. There was a change of plans this morning as we originally were going to set out at 7am but we made the right call and started at 6. Today I went on a challenge to tackle my longest ride ever. The 5 of us enjoyed our journey down to Portsea😳😳. Yeah I was feeling the same way when I heard that too. Portsea is bloody far away but I don’t really have a choice anymore. The pics are from Portsea looks like summer. The conditions were horrendous, out there was some serious wind and at some points I was honestly close to falling off my bike. Anyway I hit 140 and the last 10km felt like forever but with some motivating teammates we got back in 5:55:10 dialing in at 154km !!! But it wasn’t done there we got changed and we had a 20 minute run waiting. We got this done as quickly as we could coming in at 3.6km. This was the first time I was genuinely in actually pain when I walked after the exercise was all over. We quickly went to the local cafe and smashed a serious meal to refuel. Overall was a good, challenging day of exercise which is what we loveee. Although not sure how I’m going to tackle a 26km trail run tomorrow. I guess we will find out what happens tomorrow morning. Time to have a recovery session in my freezing cold pool. Thanks for all the messages ❤️❤️

Shout out to everyone who got a @parkrunuk in today 🙌 we were back at Reading this morning, and here a throwback to th Amagerstrandpark ParkRun in Copenhagen last weekend (the real reason we went, not the IronMan...) I absolutely love my Saturday ParkRun. As someone who hated running 12 months ago, and outright refused to do it, they've given me the opportunity to run with so many people and every weekend I'm inspired by every runner out there. It's free, the volunteers are amazing, and I couldn't recommend more.
If you dont know where to start, 9am on a Saturday morning is a pretty good place 🙌
